Book art
40 years of book art
1982 - 2022
I tell my stories in my own way, complementing the language of words with the language of images in real and abstract form.
Through writing, I unconsciously try to trace the complexity of contemporary life, but also to reveal social conflicts, to make them clear. The reader is put in relation between his world and a world that is perhaps unknown to him. It is precisely at the margins of our society that the foreign, the undiscovered is to be found, what many are looking for. My work is done by perceiving certain social conditions and thus requires the state of being attentive. My texts live from external and internal observation, which I try to write down sensitively.
The images, abstract or real, respond to the text, whereby the inner side of life is decisive and becomes perceptible in harmony with the text. Through the image in particular, but also through the text, I want to address the unconscious that is inherent in everyone.

MailArt
10 years of MailArtMagazine 1992 - 2002
Like water, MailArt is always in motion, always new and refreshing. Since its creation in 1962 by Ray Jonson, MailArt has been carried forward again and again by people who like the idea of communicating with each other outside the commercial art business. Again and again, people get involved in discovering the other, in exchanging ideas with him, across all borders of politics, society and cultures, around the world. MailArt is a movement that lives through activity and diversity of thought and opinion.
MailArtMagazine (MAM for short) is a non-commercial, original graphic art magazine, published once a year in an edition of 30 copies. Each participant who submits a thematic artistic contribution will receive a copy of the MAM in return. The remaining edition is then sent free of charge to an interested group of people. One copy of each of the last two editions is now in the Bavarian State Library.
A specially created art stamp is produced for each issue and enclosed with the MAM.
Since 1992, we have set ourselves a theme, which we reflect on and realise artistically. With the works of the last 10 issues, we cover a wide spectrum of artistic exploration.

While the first edition of the MAM was still written on a typewriter and photocopied, today the text is produced by computer and laser printer. However, each issue is still compiled, bound and dispatched by hand. MAM is published in German/English translation. The translation has now been taken over by Bernd Reichert from Brussels. Over the years, the editorial work of MAM has become a European joint project.
With MailArt, communication in words and pictures takes place by post. The task of MAM is to make the communication partners think and to re-examine their own world of thoughts with the reactions. MAM is a form of communication that has been going its way since 1992.

"Lifelines - Franziska de Paly - 1879-1964"
Once again an extensive artistic work has come to its final conclusion. In mid-June 2022, I had the idea to deal with the exciting life of my grandmother. This examination led me to look at her life year by year and to place it in the respective political environment, or rather, which inventions and discoveries were made during this time.
During the artistic work, in addition to the artist's book and the film for the book, a completely different, completely new, special idea crystallised. I wanted to take up a completely different artistic dimension. Paper sculptures were to become the basis for a film in the form of a concertante, digital opera, arranged in a modern paper theatre. The basis for the plot and the stage design is the artist's book Lebenslinien that was created. Which can also be experienced three-dimensionally through its transformation into paper sculptures.
The title of my new artist's book is: "Lifelines - Franziska de Paly - 1879-1964".

Issue 03/2022 "Menschengesang"
"Menschengesang", is my new artist book.
Why do humans sing? This is the initial question for my new artist's book "Menschengesang".
With my artistic work I have tried to approach this question. The answers are probably as different as there are people. Some are almost the same. Nevertheless, human song moves the hearts of the performers as well as those of the listeners.
Walk with me a little way down this path into the realm of music.

Issue 03/2022 "La Danza".
La Danza
"La Danza", the dance, is the title of my new artist's book. "La Danza" reminds me of a bar in Baveno that used to be right on the shore of Lake Maggiore.
My wife and I danced there very passionately and enjoyed the play of lights on the waves of the lake.
Get involved in a book of dance.
